FAQ

FAQ:

For reasons unknown to me, people have seemed to feel the need to ask incredibly difficult and general questions about how I started out and what they should do to be in ~fashion~ or live in NY.

There is no cookie cutter formula that is one size fits all or the right path for you. For some people it’s interning at one place for a year until they hopefully hire you, for others it’s being a never ending intern and bouncing from place to place. I can’t give you the right advice that will fit you. I don’t even know if I did it right or am doing it right, but I am doing it and that’s all that matters to me.

I can’t give you the information you need to find the right school for you. I went to Parsons. That’s all I know and I choose that school based on what I felt was right for me when I was 18 years old. I did my research, applied to 7 different schools, and after being accepted to 6 out of 7, I choose Parsons. I moved to NY with the help of my mom in 2004 and haven’t left since. I worked my ass off, I always took the most credits I could every semester, and interned at the best places I knew would help me become a better artist and business person.

I’m also always asked how long it took for me to adjust to NY. That’s like asking how long it took to learn how to drive a car or a bike or figure out how to use a camera. Every person is different. I can’t tell you where to shop, vintage find [I don’t buy vintage, it’s not my style], or what to see. I’m not a tour guide! There are tons of great sites to help you with that. Use Google, I hear it’s catching on.

Finally, people keep asking me what I do for a living. I hope you can respect my privacy and refrain from asking because I have chosen to keep that information private. Yes, I work within fashion and am incredibly lucky to do so. I also freelance shoot fashion editorials/tests, nyfw, and events. You can view a partial client list here.  You can view my portfolio here & follow my portfolio blog here.

Thank you for reading and for all the questions, I hope this gives you some insight and you can find your own path.

Equipment: My Blackberry is now a 9780 [as of 01.27.12] anything before that was taken with a Bold 9700, I post with the tumblr app for Blackberry. When I post photos with my real camera they come from a Canon 7D/5DM2/5DM3 or the camera used is listed in the tags. I am not sponsored or affiliated with Blackberry in any way, I am a enthusiastic consumer that loves her phone.
